The Department of Social Welfare, in its welfare programmes for women, emphasises the need for initiatives advancing and developing economic empowerment. It has a comprehensive scheme for promoting the formation of self-help groups and development of marketable skills, such as the Mukhya Mantri Nari Shakti Yojana. In addition, it offers support for destitute women and girls through programmes such as the Mukhya Mantri Sanwasin Vivah Anudaan Yojana and rehabilitation services for victims of rape and support services in the form of shelters for women in crisis situations.
